1.
Charlize Theron in “Monster.” -
2.
Charlize Theron is, in my humble opinion, one of the sexiest actresses ever. Period. So for her to transform into this monstrosity (pun) she really must have worked hard. For this role she gained 30 lbs, shaved her eye brows, and wore prosthetic teeth. -
3.
Matt Damon in “The Informant.” -
4.
Matt put on 30 lbs for his role in this movie, but he says that it was the most fun he’s ever had filming. “I didn’t have to go to the gym after work and I just ate everything I could see.” -
5.
50 Cent in “Things Fall part.” -
6.
Curtis lost 54 lbs to portray his character the way he wanted to in this movie. He said “…if I don’t get close enough to what my best friend looked like to me at that point before he passed, then I’m not doing the story any justice.” -
7.
Anne Hathaway in “Les Miserables.” -
8.
Anne lost 25 lbs before filming and another 15 during filming in order to achieve the look she felt her character needed to portray. She had a nutritionist and a health guide with her on set to ensure she wasn’t in danger of permanently damaging her body. -
9.
Robert De Niro in “Raging Bull.” -
10.
Robert had to throw on 60 lbs of fat in order to play this version of his character. -
11.
Jared Leto in “Chapter 27.” -
12.
Jared put on 67 lbs to play John Lennon’s killer in the movie. Jared also lost 47 lbs for his role in “Dallas Buyers Club.” -
13.
Tom Hanks in “Cast Away.” -
14.
Tom lost 50 lbs and grew out his hair and beard to film the second half of the movie. -
15.
Jake Gyllenhaal in “Nightcrawler.” -
16.
Jake lost 30 lbs to play his character in “Nightcrawler.” He said “Physically, it showed itself, but chemically and mentally, I think it was even a more fascinating journey.” After this movie, he packed on 45 lbs of muscle to play his role as a boxer in “Southpaw.” -
17.
Matthew McConaughey in “Dallas Buyers Club.” -
18.
Matthew lost 47 lbs for his role as a man with H.I.V. -
19.
Christian Bale in “The Machinist.” -
20.
Christian lost 63 lbs for this film in order to play his sleep deprived, ‘skin and bones’ character. His diet consisted of nothing but a can of tuna and some water. Furthermore, for his film “American Psycho,” he endured insane workout and body care routines to reach the physical ‘perfection’ of Patrick Bateman. After “The Machinist” he bulked up for “Batman Begins,” shrunk back down to a near anorexic state for “The Fighter,” only to bulk back up again for “The Dark Knight Rises.”
